ORLOV NIKOLAY: (1827-1885) Prince Orloff. Russian Diplomat and close friend to Emperor Alexander III. Ambassador of Russia to Paris and Brussels 1859-69. A liberal mind and respected Diplomat. Two A.L.S., `N. Orloff´, two and three pages respectively, bifold 12mo, with embossed crowned monogramme with his initials to the upper part of the letters. The first letter is dated 28th October 1867, to Mr. Felkerson, Consul General of Russia, in French. Prince Orlov states `Veuillez, cher Mr. Felkerson, faire légaliser ma signature... que vous présentera le porteur de ces lignes, Paul Nikitine...´ (Translation: "Please, dear Mr. Felkerson, have my signature legalized... which will be presented to you by the bearer of these lines, Paul Nikitin...") With blank integral leaf. Accompanied by the original envelope in Orlov´s hand. The second letter is dated 7th May 1871, to Mr. Kamensky, in English. Orlov states in part `Dear Kamensky, I will do all in my power to help the poor sister of our old Stuber... Our house is always full of illnesses. Poor Amélie is still in bed and Miss Guimbal the former governess of my wife is dangerously ill...´ VG, 2
