MUSSOLINI BENITO: (1883-1945)
Very rare early letter by Mussolini aged eighteen

MUSSOLINI BENITO: (1883-1945) Italian Fascist Dictator of World War II. A very interesting early and unusual A.L.S., `Mussolini´, one page, to an Italian postcard, Dovia, 21st September 1901, to his friend Sante Bedeschi, in Massa Lombarda, in Italian. Mussolini is only eighteen years old and seeks for a job and wonders about his uncertain future. Mussolini, in his usual youth small writing, explains to his friend Bedeschi on his way back from Ancona, how was his exam to get a post of school teacher and finds the time to refer to the women of Ancona, stating in part `Reduce da Ancona, ove dimorai quattro giorni, sul pendio del monte e sull´onda glauca del mare... citta delle donne castane, dalli occhi azzuri... fu una passeggiata... e null´altro. Eravamo trentadue cani per ossi quattro, molti mastini eran gia bianchi per antico pelo, altri andavano onusti per titoli, decorazioni, medaglie. Ed io, ultimo forse fra senno cotanto, dalla giovine eta, dalle singolari parvenze fui scartato, quantunque svolgessi a dovere il tema...francamente... ora... nonso piu dove battere la testa...´ (Translation: "Coming back from Ancona, where I stayed for four days, on the slope of the mountain and on the glaucous wave of the sea... city of brown-haired, blue-eyed women... I had a walk... and nothing else. We were thirty-two dogs for four bones, many mastiffs were already white because of their old fur, others were well-endowed with titles, decorations, medals. And I, the last one perhaps in all wisdom, was rejected because of my youth, by my singular appearance, although I was carrying out the theme properly...frankly... now... I don't know where to turn anymore...") Postmarked. Very small staining and age wear, with a central fold, otherwise G

As well as Mussolini, Sante Bedeschi was a school teacher, working at the Collegio Dalle Vacche in Forli.

Sold for €3,400
Estimated at €2,500 - €3,500
