MIRABEAU HONORÉ COMTE DE: (1749-1791) French Writer and an early Leader of the French revolution. President of the National Constituent Assembly 1791. A successful orator who became the voice of the people. Rare A.L.S., Mirabeau-fils, one page, 8vo, n.p. [prison of Vincennes], 22nd December 1779, to Monsieur Boucher, in French. Mirabeau refers to the completion of his Contes, and suggests `Thinking in the frontispiece I have noticed that something must be added to better identify it..´ , further mentioning `I have realized this morning that I didn´t copy the last letter of the Marquise, which I thought had sent to you. I am going to do it right now.´ and ends with `My good angel, talk to me about my daughter.´ A letter of excellent content written while imprisoned. With two annotations to the upper and lower edges in another hand. VG Before 1789 Mirabeau was involved in numerous scandals, and had been condemned to death for sedition and abduction. In May 1777 he was seized and imprisoned in the castle of Vincennes.The early part of his five years confinement is marked by indecent letters to Sophie ( published in 1793), and the obscene `Erotica biblion´. In Vincennes Mirabeau met the Marquis de Sade, who was also writing erotic works. The work Mirabeau refers to is `Recueil de contes´, later published in London in 1780. Marie Thérèse, Marquise de Monnier, is "Sophie", Mirabeau´s mistress and the Marquise he refers to in this letter. Mirabeau signs with his name and adds `fils´ as son of Victor de Riqueti, Marquis de Mirabeau (1715-1789) a French Economist, and often referred to as the elder Mirabeau.
