[HITLER ADOLF]: (1889-1945)

[HITLER ADOLF]: (1889-1945) Fuhrer of the Third Reich 1933-45. JAHN PETER: (1904-1990) Austrian art dealer who established himself as an expert on the paintings of Adolf Hitler and was appointed as the Art Consultant to the German Embassy in Vienna in 1937. Jahn was charged with the task of searching for, purchasing and collecting individual pieces of Hitler's art, apparently with the intention of destroying much of it. An unusual D.S., Peter Jahn, one page, 4to, Vienna, 21st August 1979. The typed document, in slightly broken English, is a certificate of authenticity issued by Jahn for one of Hitler's paintings and states, in part (errors retained) 'Certificate of Authenticiti for an original water colour of an old romans landscape, sign. a. Hitler......I have examined this picturre and on account of my thorough aquaintance with pictures done by Hitler, I consider this one as an original from him. This pictures is also quite importent for the research of Hitler paintings since it shows Exeptionaly well his talent in regard to architional drawing......in the year 1937 I became art cosulent to the German Embassy in Vienna.....to start a search for Hitler paintings in Vienna.....I discovered many of Hitlers paintings and handed them over to the Partei in Munich.....As far as I know I seem the last living expert and I am often consulted by owners of presumtive Hitler paintings'. With a further typed statement in German beneath, signed by a notary, and also bearing several official stamps etc., including that of the notary Dr. Anton Gmoser of Vienna. To the verso appears a 10 x 6.5 black and white photographic reproduction of the painting referred to, mounted with clear tape at each corner and also bearing the four official stamps of Dr. Anton Gmoser to the corners.
