MACARTHUR DOUGLAS: (1880-1964)

MACARTHUR DOUGLAS: (1880-1964) American General who played a prominent role in the Pacific during World War II. A good vintage signed 8 x 11 photograph of MacArthur in a half-length pose outdoors, wearing a military jacket and cap as he makes a salute. An American military officer, wearing his uniform and helmet, stands to attention in the immediate background. Signed by MacArthur in blue fountain pen ink with his name alone to the lower white border. Dated Tokyo, Japan, 1946 in an unidentified hand to the verso. Some very light, extremely minor age wear and a few very minor corner and surface creases, otherwise VG

MacArthur was appointed as the first Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (SCAP) in August 1945 at the start of the United States-led Allied occupation of Japan. He remained in the position until 1951 and was also in charge of southern Korea from 1945-48.
