TALLEYRAND-PÉRIGORD CHARLES MAURICE DE: (1754-1838) French Diplomat and Statesman. Prime Minister of France July-September 1815. D.S., `Charles Maurice´, one page, large folio, Saint Cloud, 5th May 1812, to Mr. Pérogier, President of the canton of Rohan, in French. The printed document is an extract from the minutes of the State Secretariat and is signed by Talleyrand at the base, in his capacity as Vice-Grand-Elector. The document refers to the organization of the convening of the canton assembly, stating in part `Monsieur le Président, nous jugeons convenable de convoquer pour le 11eme jour du mois d´octobre 1812, l´assemblée de canton à la présidence de laquelle nous vous avons appelé. En conséquence, nous vous mandons par cette lettre, que vous ayez à exécuter les dispositions des actes des Constitutions de l´Empire et Décrets relatifs à la dite convocation...´ (Translation: "Mr. President, we deem it appropriate to convene the canton assembly on the 11th day of October 1812, to which we have appointed you as president. Consequently, we hereby order you to execute the provisions of the Constitutions of the Empire and the Decrees relating to the said convocation...") Countersigned by the Secretary of State Daru and by the interior Minister Montalivet. Also bearing a blind embossed seal stating "Napoleon Empereur des Français". With blank integral leaf. Very small age wear, mstly to the bottom edge. G
