HARTNELL WILLIAM: (1908-1975) English actor, the first actor to portray the Doctor in the television science fiction series Doctor Who (1963-66). A good vintage signed and inscribed 10 x 7.5 photograph of the actor standing in a three-quarter length pose, in costume as Dallow, on a staircase in a scene from the British gangster film noir Brighton Rock (1948), adapted from Graham Greene's novel of the same title. Signed by Hartnell in fountain pen ink, largely across a darker area of the image although reasonably legible, and dated 1949 in his hand. One very light, extremely minor corner crease, VG
