CRAWFORD JOAN: (1905-1977) (x4)

CRAWFORD JOAN: (1905-1977) American actress, Academy Award winner. Small collection of four T.Ls.S., Joan, seven pages (total), 8vo, n.p. (Los Angeles, California), April 1967 - December 1976, all to J. Fred Johnson. Crawford writes a series of social letters to her devoted fan and friend, making references to a number of screen and stage productions, and other projects, in part, ´Your comments about "Washington cats" were fitting and amusing. Thank you for not believing all the distortions in the newspapers regarding the alleged incident there. It was exaggerated beyond a semblance of the truth, believe me. No, I haven´t made "You´ll Hang, My Love" as it has been postponed, due to casting difficulties......How lovely that you had a happy visit with Betty Grable when she was in Maryland in "Hello Dolly". She´s a warm, friendly, charming human being, and I´m glad she is doing so well with her "Dolly". You friend Dolores Gray received tremendous rave notices in "Sherry" when it opened here. I´m glad she has this big hit, as she has a lovely talent´ (10th April 1967), ´I´m happy to know that "Night of the Iguana" turned out so well and was a smashing success. You are fortunate to be able to direct "Tea and Sympathy". It´s a truly beautiful play, and written magnificently. I´ve always loved that play, and have seen it several times. Bravo! for so doing so well with Henry Higgins. Believe me, he is a difficult part! Of course "My Fair Lady" is another beautiful play, but the role of Higgins must have been a challenge......"Berserk" will be released in January, Fred. I hope you´ll find it entertaining. It´s a colorful picture, and the circus element seems very popular at the previews we´ve had´ (7th October 1967; accompanied by the original envelope), ´Your beautiful letter.....arrived with the enclosures. Number one envelope is a fabulous letter from you to Newsweek and your criticism of them in your letter is so accurate and amusing.......Number three envelope is obviously my wall. Your portrait of me is miraculous. You make me look happy, free, alive, and glorious. Thank you, dear, dear Fred.....You are a rare and beautiful person.....No, dear, I´m not doing "Follies"......And as to "The Little Foxes", I´ve turned it down four times. I want to create my own performance, not to follow the great Bankhead´ (17th July 1973), ´Your warm letter and the articles arrived. I have always known how beautifully you write, also how magnificently articulate you are. To try to express my gratitude to you for the article you did on me is next to impossible. So I will just say thank you for your belief and faith in me......´(28th December 1976). Some very slight, minor traces of mounting to the corners of the versos, VG, 4
